I got those skills from...
I am a computer teacher in the business department at Grove High School. This is my fourth year teaching and I love it. Before teaching I was a E911 Dispatcher and Computer Tech for the City of Grove during which time I put myself through 6 1/2 years of college. I studied at NEO A&M College for 2 years earning an AA degree in Criminal Justice in 2000. Studies continued at NSU in Tahlequah for 2 years earning a BS degree in Criminal Justice and Management of Information Systems. In December 2004 I completed my Masters of Education Administration Degree at William woods University.
It all started when...
My mom, dad, and several of my relatives were former Grove teachers. My uncle Solon used to be the superintendent of Grove Schools for many years a long time ago. Growing up, I would help my mother in her T-1 and Pre-School classrooms; making things, moving things around, and helping out. I never wanted to be a teacher at that time. It wasn't until I began substitute teaching part time while I was working as the District Drug Court Administrator did I realized that I loved teaching; it was in my blood and I couldn't get enough. A short time passed when a vacancy opened as a computer teacher and I was very accepted the position with joy.
Computer nerd say what...
The only thing that I enjoy more than building websites, making graphics and working on computers is teaching kids how to do those things. I also believe that it is important that we do not live most of our lives online. My father was a computer geek too and it cost him his marriage. I want my students to understand that computers can simplify their lives and careers but they can also destroy the same things that they cherish most just as easy. Parents please do not take the internet for granite as a safe place for your children and take the time to talk to your children about their internet use and what is acceptable and not. Enable content filters and take an active part in your child's online life.
What I can teach you...
The business department at GHS consists of Sherry Harvey, Nikki Rush and myself. Lately we have been busy since the introduction of new college entrance guidelines specifying that graduating students beginning in 2011 must have 4 full semesters of completed computer classes; or 2 may be substituted for foreign language.
