Upper Elementary
Welcome back to school at the Upper Elementary. We currently have 338 students enrolled for the 2009-10 school year. I am looking forward to a fantastic school year. We have awesome teachers, students, and the parent involvement is outstanding. I need to update and inform you of events at the Upper Elementary.
CAR RIDERS The location for bringing students to school is in front of the grey building at the playground. Student may either stay on the playground or go to the cafeteria for a free breakfast. Students arriving at 8:15 or later should be dropped off at the front entrance. On rainy days students may be dropped off at the front entrance and report to there classrooms. If eating breakfast continue to drop off at the usual locations, as it will be easier access to the cafeteria. (Some parents have made some other suggestions, if you are still having difficulty give me a call and I will work on changes). Suggestions are greatly appreciated! Car riders will be dismissed at 3:20 P.M. Students are to be picked up at the front entrance by the flag pole. NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO CROSS THE STREET TO ENTERVEHICLE. All parents must follow in line heading east. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND SUPPORT. THIS TASK IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORANT AS IT INVOLVES THE SAFTY OF YOUR CHILDREN. Look for information on WALK A THON to be sent home soon! ATTENDANCE POLICY If you child is absent or tardy you need to notify the office so we may document the absence. By law the school is required to report students with four or more days or part of days within a four week period. He/she will be considered truant and will be reported to the District Attorney's office. (Refer to student handbook for detailed information) BOX TOPS Please save your box tops and Campbell's soup label's. Last year we earned around $600.00. This year our goal is $800.00. We will have an ice cream party each semester for the top 15 collectors. Thank you Sunni Porter for coordinating this fundraiser. VOLUNTEERS This year we are trying to increase our amount of volunteers at Grove Upper Elementary. Each teacher will keep a log of number of parent volunteer hours spent each week. Some ideas are reading with small groups, assisting with teacher tasks, special days, bulletin boards, copying, or helping in the office. Grandparents are always welcome to help! Please let your child's homeroom know how you would like to help. Sincerely, Shelly Barnes/GUE Principal
